Introduction: Understanding Chip ‘N’ Logs
Meeting with owner of Chip N Logs Charlie at a business event he explained his pain points of his current website. Charlie was no longer seeing the benefits that a website could bring. We agreed to an initial audit of the website and come back to Charlie with our findings.
Octavis Findings
From our online audit we found that Chip N Logs website had not been updated by their previous website management team. Chip N Logs was running an old unsecure WordPress that was running several versions behind which could have contained vulnerabilities that had the potential to be exploited.
We also found that the website was one page although it appeared to be a multiple page website with the navigation bar not leading to other pages just anchored to text on the same page. This is not a recommended approach as it decreases you visibility on search engines as SEO is limited when you only have one or two pages.

Process
We started by finding out the functionality that Charlie required for Chip N Logs. We found that Charlies clients ordered their kiln dried logs via phone. We decided that we should implement an online ordering system so that Charlie can receive orders online. This would also help acquire new customers, guiding them through the newly designed website and encouraging them to place an order online.
We went with Chip N Logs brand colours green and blue and we utalised this throughout the website. Making use of vibrant forestry graphics to enhance the overall look of the website.
Family Run Business
Chip ‘N’ Logs is a family run business and it was important we got that message across. We showcased on the homepage their impressive statistics with their thousands of clients and deliveries made this is important for social proof when converting potential clients.

Search Engine Optimisation
To help Chip N Logs rank in the search engines we started with on page seo this is where we implemented certain keywords and created extra content relating to their market.
Octavis created two in-depth articles about the most searched for topics in the industry. What is Biomass? and another highly searched for topic is difference between choosing hardwood or softwood for wood burning stoves.
